Jose Mourinho responds to Pep Guardiola’s Premier League title jibe in brutal fashion

Guardiola drew comparisons with Mourinho by raising six fingers towards taunting Liverpool fans during City's disappointing 2-0 defeat at Anfield last weekend

Jose Mourinho has launched a scathing response to Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City manager appeared to mock the Portuguese coach’s Premier League title record.

Guardiola seemingly drew comparisons with Mourinho by raising six fingers towards taunting Liverpool fans during City’s disappointing 2-0 defeat at Anfield last weekend.

The gesture was interpreted as a nod to his six Premier League titles with City, contrasting with Mourinho’s tally of three.

Mourinho famously used three fingers in 2018 to symbolise his three Premier League triumphs with Chelsea while enduring a poor spell at Manchester United.

That gesture has since been linked to his struggles during his final months at Old Trafford.

When questioned earlier this week about the comparison, Guardiola acknowledged the infamous moment, with the reporter suggesting that Mourinho’s “three for me” comment marked the beginning of his downfall at United.

“I hope not in my case,” Guardiola replied. “He won three, I won six.. but we are the same like that.

“We are together in the those situations. To make our fans know that we are much, much better than the people that sing that [Liverpool fans singing sacked in the morning].

“It [the gesture] was just to make our fans feel that what we have done is extraordinary. I want to prove that we are an incredible football club. Sooner or later it’s going to be the end but I will try to extend as much as possible for the best of my club.”

Jose Mourinho has responded to the criticism in his typically brutal style. Now in charge of Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham boss stated: “Guardiola said something to me.

“He won three titles and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly.

“If I lost, I want to congratulate my opponent because he was better than me.

“I don’t want to win by dealing with 115 lawsuits.”
