Manchester City considering move for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes in January

Pep Guardiola is ready to renew his interest in Newcastle’s midfield star, a player he considered over the summer

Pep Guardiola is pushing Manchester City to pursue Bruno Guimaraes as they look to strengthen their squad in January.

The Premier League champions are at risk of losing their title for the first time in years unless they find their best form in the coming months.

The absence of Rodri, who sustained an ACL injury early in the season, has severely impacted City’s midfield. Rodri’s role is pivotal, and Guardiola is seeking players to fill the void in January.

The City boss is ready to renew his interest in Newcastle’s midfield star, a player he considered over the summer.

At that time, Guimaraes’s £100million release clause deterred City from making a move.

However, now the Premier League side is reportedly prepared to test Newcastle’s resolve with an offer in the new year.

Bruno Guimaraes has been a standout performer at St James’ Park, and Man City are considering offering Matheus Nunes as part of a potential swap deal, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Since joining Newcastle from Lyon, Guimaraes has been tipped for a move to a European heavyweight, yet he has remained loyal to Eddie Howe’s side.

Although he would command a substantial transfer fee, City are hoping to reduce that cost by negotiating a player exchange.

Rodri, who has expressed hope of returning before the season ends, could still leave Guardiola without his star man for several months.

In the meantime, the City boss is exploring other options to fill the midfield void.

Man City recently ended a seven-match winless streak, but Guardiola’s side continues to monitor players like Martin Zubimendi, the Real Sociedad midfielder and Euro 2024 winner who was linked with a summer move to Liverpool.

Guimaraes, too, has made it clear that he is committed to bringing silverware to Newcastle. In the summer, he expressed his desire to win a trophy with the Magpies.

“I can only say I am very happy to be here. These things (rumours) I can’t control. But I am here and very happy. I hope they keep me here,” Guimaraes said.
