Kalvin Phillips is on the verge of finalizing a season-long loan deal to Ipswich Town, according to The Telegraph.
The Englishman has faced challenges with game time over recent seasons, compounded by a disappointing loan spell at West Ham last campaign.
Despite travelling with Manchester City to the United States for their pre-season tour, where he played as a central defender, Phillips failed to impress Pep Guardiola, who acknowledged that the player ‘knows the situation.’
Moreover, the England international did not feature in City’s Community Shield victory against Manchester United.
Phillips still has four years remaining on his current contract.
Manchester City have been exploring options for a loan move, with Premier League newcomer Ipswich Town nearing a deal for a season-long loan.
This move would add another significant signing for the Tractor Boys, who have already secured players like Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, and Liam Delap.
Several Premier League clubs, including Everton and Fulham, were interested in signing Phillips.
However, it now appears that Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town is close to finalising the deal.
Phillips was acquired by Manchester City from Leeds United for £42 million ahead of the 2022-23 season.
During City’s treble-winning campaign, he featured in only 21 games, as Guardiola struggled to integrate him into the starting lineup.
The following season, the 28-year-old spent the latter half of the campaign on loan at West Ham, making just 10 appearances and often observing from the sidelines.
