Anthony Gordon is expected to leave Newcastle this summer for up to £80million, but Liverpool have “no plans” to revive their previous interest.
Newcastle are open to selling as they seek a substantial profit on the £45million paid to Everton three years ago.
While Gordon has impressed in Europe with 10 goals in 12 Champions League games, he has scored just six in 26 Premier League appearances this season.
Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested, but The Athletic’s James Pearce reports Liverpool are not pursuing a deal.
The Reds came close in 2024, agreeing a £75million move that would have seen Joe Gomez head the other way, but Newcastle instead sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh before tying Gordon to a new contract.
Liverpool are still expected to sign at least one winger. Anthony Gordon fits the profile as a homegrown player who can operate across the front line and provide competition for Cody Gakpo.
He also has a strong link with Alexander Isak, assisting him eight times, second only to Jacob Murphy (11).
Despite his experience – 176 Premier League games, 18 in the Champions League and 17 England caps – Liverpool appear focused on other targets. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is a leading option, with Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Toure and PSG’s Bradley Barcola also linked.
