Bayern Munich are in advanced negotiations with Liverpool regarding a potential deal for Luis Diaz, according to Sky Sports News.
After Liverpool rejected Bayern’s initial offer, reportedly around £58.5million, the German champions have returned with an improved bid believed to be approximately £69 million (€80million).
Final details of the total package are currently being discussed.
Throughout the summer, Liverpool have been reluctant to sell any key first-team players.
However, following Diaz’s clear indication of his desire to join Bayern, the Reds found themselves with little choice but to enter serious talks.
Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 for a guaranteed £37.5million, signing a 5.5-year contract.
With two years remaining on his deal and at 28 years old, this potential transfer would represent good business for Liverpool’s hierarchy.
On Saturday, manager Arne Slot confirmed that Diaz missed the Reds’ pre-season friendly defeat to AC Milan due to ongoing transfer speculation.
“He’s training really well with us,” Slot said, “but we’ve decided, for now, not to play him yet.
“I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis, like I said, Lucho is training really well and we’ve decided he’s not playing at the moment. I cannot comment much more about that.”
