Ibrahima Konate has provided Liverpool with an injury boost by participating in open training ahead of their Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
The French international was in visible discomfort after sustaining a wrist injury during the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, which led to his substitution at half-time.
Fortunately, scans have confirmed that the centre-back avoided a serious injury.
The incident occurred when teammate Virgil van Dijk accidentally stepped on Konate’s left arm, but the damage was less severe than initially feared.
“We call it the jungle when we go in set-pieces because there are so many bodies out there,” the Dutchman explained.
“Unfortunately I caught him, I landed on his arm so that’s obviously quite a heavy leg that comes on your arm. It was very painful so he had to come off unfortunately.”
Konate, meanwhile took to Instagram on Sunday to confirm that he had avoided serious injury.
“Thanks for all the messages of support,” he wrote.
“My injury isn’t serious thankfully.
“I had a scan today and it confirmed there is no break.
“I’ll be ready for the next game.”
While Liverpool will have Konate available for the match, they will still be without the services of Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Harvey Elliott, and Diogo Jota.
The quartet were again absent from training on Monday, with manager Slot confirming that they are expected to remain sidelined until after the November international break.
“It is always difficult to tell you exactly when they are ready because especially the last phase of the recovery can always be a few days extra or less,” he said.
“The fact is that they [Alisson and Jota] are not there before the international break and let’s see if they can join us after.
“Chiesa is not back before the international break, but there is only a week to go.
“We are hoping he can do things again during the international break and that he can join us afterwards.”
