Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has come under fire from some of his Muslim followers after posting a festive family photo in front of a Christmas tree.
Salah, a practicing Muslim, shared the image on social media with the caption”#MerryChristmas”.
The picture featured the Egypt intentional, his wife Magi, and their daughters Makka and Kayan wearing matching festive pyjamas, continuing a tradition the family has upheld in recent years.
While many fans praised the post for spreading holiday cheer and showcasing family unity, others criticised Salah, claiming the celebration is inconsistent with Islamic values.
This isn’t the first time Salah has faced backlash for similar posts during the festive season.
Despite the mixed reactions, Salah remains a beloved figure in football, celebrated not only for his skills on the pitch but also for his philanthropic efforts and family-oriented persona.
“You let me down bro,’ wrote one user on Instagram.
“Delete this right now,’ said another.
“At this point am just disappointed in you bro,’ one wrote.
Another said: “We Muslim people look up to you and you do this in return.”
One posted:”‘With all the warning you still go ahead and posted this shame pose of yours. May Allah guard you to the ryt part. For now on, I shall be unfollow you from all platform and also block you. You are disgraceful. I also stop to watch Liverpool match forever.’
Another wrote: “Mark my words you won’t score any goal till end of the season, for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the entire Muslim community.”
The controversy comes during a phenomenal season for the 32-year-old, who has been in scintillating form.
Salah has already netted 15 goals and provided 11 assists in the Premier League, leading the race for the Golden Boot.
His remarkable performance against Tottenham in Liverpool’s last game saw him become the first-ever Premier League player to register 10 goals and 10 assists before Christmas.
Despite the online criticism, Salah is set to feature in Liverpool’s Boxing Day clash against Leicester City, as the Reds aim to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
