Liverpool could pocket as much as £56million from the sale of Darwin Nunez after the striker’s transfer to the Saudi Pro League was confirmed.
The Uruguay international has left Anfield after three years, joining long-time admirers Al-Hilal.
The Reds have secured a guaranteed fee of £46million, with a further £10million potentially arriving through performance-related add-ons.
The deal comes in slightly lower than the verbal £60million offer Liverpool rejected from Al Nassr in January.
At the time, the club opted to keep their squad intact to aid their ultimately successful Premier League title charge, knowing that summer valuations are often lower than mid-season bids.
Napoli saw an approach for Nunez turned down earlier this summer, while AC Milan also showed interest.
Liverpool are understood to be surprised that Newcastle United did not pursue a move, given their need for attacking reinforcements, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The transfer means Liverpool’s income from this summer’s sales stands at £181million, potentially rising to £202million if all add-ons are triggered.
Their outlay so far in the transfer window is £266million, including the £29 million deal for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili agreed last year.
Attention will now turn to finding Nunez’s replacement, with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak remaining the club’s primary target.
Speaking on Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak, Arne Slot said: “As you know, from me and I think every manager works like this, you never talk about players that are not yours.
“I can talk about Hugo (Ekitike), who we have signed and done really well until now.
“We are very happy with the squad and have every reason to be happy because we won the league last season. Okay, players left but we brought players in as well and youngsters are doing good.
“At this moment of time, Darwin might leave, indeed, but things are not signed so we need to wait a few days until that is completely done but there is indeed a chance he is going to leave.”
