Kevin De Bruyne has expressed confidence in rediscovering his best form in the New Year as he continues to recover from a prolonged injury lay-off.
The Manchester City playmaker is gradually working his way back into Pep Guardiola’s side following a nine-week absence due to a pubis issue.
At 33, Kevin De Bruyne admits he is not yet at his usual level but remains a vital contributor.
He played a key role in City’s 2-0 win over Leicester City, helping Guardiola’s team return to winning ways.
While his condition still requires careful management, De Bruyne is optimistic about improving.
When asked about his physical state, the Belgian international said: “It’s all right. I’m hoping to get better now. We’ve got an easier schedule so I hope with training sessions the next few weeks will get me into a better rhythm.
“It’s hard to say how far off I am.
“With the injury I had, I came back and played four games in ten days and that was hard. It wasn’t nice.
“I don’t know what it was. The pubis? It was a bit of everything. There’s not a lot you can do with it, just wait.”
He added: “It’s been really hard. It’s been that kind of season.
“The first four weeks were all right but then we came into a rhythm where people were struggling and playing too many games.
“You have to do it because we didn’t have anyone else.
“Hopefully, after the New Year, people will come back and we will get back as a team, that will help.”
