Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim suffers major blow as January transfer budget disclosed

Amorim, who took charge following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October, has been tasked with revitalising a struggling United side.

Ruben Amorim has been dealt a significant setback, with the Manchester United manager reportedly unable to bolster his squad in the upcoming January transfer window due to financial constraints.

Amorim, who took charge following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal in October, has been tasked with revitalising a struggling United side.

However, the club’s woes have persisted. Currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, United have managed just 22 points from 19 matches and are winless in their last four outings.

The Portuguese coach has even acknowledged that relegation remains a “possibility” if their poor form continues.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s financial situation is dire, and they are unable to make any signings in January unless players are sold first.

The report cites a source claiming the club “can’t do anything” without generating funds from departures, following a summer spending spree that exceeded £200million.

High-profile acquisitions included Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.

After United’s recent defeat to Newcastle, Amorim was asked about the prospect of strengthening his squad in January.

“We don’t have that possibility in January, if we don’t take [sell] some players,” he said.

“So you know the situation better than I am.

“So it’s not the case that I am arriving here and I can spend a lot of money changing all the team.

“You know the situation, so it’s not a point to talk about it.”
