Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes trains under Ruben Amorim for the first time

Amorim's first game as United manager is on Sunday

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has trained under new manager Ruben Amorim for the first time ahead of his debut match in charge this weekend.

Amorim’s first game as United manager is set for Sunday, when the 39-year-old Portuguese coach takes his squad to Ipswich for a Premier League clash.

The former Sporting Lisbon head coach has led two training sessions with a limited group of players, as many of his squad members are still away on international duty.

United stars Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, and Leny Yoro participated in Amorim’s first training session on Monday.

Fernandes, who was released from international duty with Portugal due to suspension for Monday’s 1-1 draw against Croatia, joined the group in training on Tuesday, reuniting with his compatriot Amorim.

With many of United’s other international stars not scheduled to return until Wednesday and Thursday, Amorim will have limited time to work with his full squad ahead of the trip to Portman Road.

However, the new United boss has wasted no time in implementing his ideas and vision. Footage from the opening session showed the team set up in his preferred 3-4-3 formation during a practice match. Amorim’s back three featured Evans, Yoro, and Shaw, though the latter two are still recovering from long-term injuries and are unlikely to start on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes, who is guaranteed a starting spot, is expected to be joined in the lineup by Casemiro, Amad, and Rashford, with Mount also in contention for a place in the starting XI.
