Pep Guardiola has acknowledged the need for reinforcements as Manchester City seek to reverse their recent slump.
The Man City manager emphasised that while he is working hard to solve the team’s struggles, the club will need to enter the transfer market next week to get their season back on track.
The Premier League champions have slipped to seventh place, having won just one of their last eight league matches, effectively ruling them out of the title race.
Ahead of City’s clash with Everton, Guardiola highlighted concerns about the team’s prospects, suggesting they may even struggle to secure a top-four finish.
With the transfer window set to reopen, the manager has made it clear that strengthening the squad will be crucial to turning their fortunes around.
“If we can we have to add players, definitely,” he told Amazon Prime Video.
“We struggle especially at the back, in the middle. I don’t know if it’s going to happen.
“I think we have to but I don’t know if it’s going to happen. The transfer window in winter is not easy.”
Despite recently signing a two-year contract extension, Manchester City’s struggles have sparked fresh speculation regarding Pep Guardiola’s future at the club.
When asked where he finds joy in challenging moments, the Catalan coach emphasised that he is still thoroughly enjoying his time at Man City, even in light of the team’s recent results.
Pep Guardiola said: “I like to be here. I love the club, the hierarchy, the people, the life in Manchester and many other things. Now more than ever. We have a lot of problems but let’s turn it around. That’s the target.
“When we won in the past, we had most of the squad. But now we have eight important players out. We cannot get out of this roll now.
“Football isn’t predictable, so maybe when you think it’s going to be difficult, you can win. Let’s see.
“When you are winning, you think more and more on how to keep the run going.
“When it’s not, we need to think more about what you have to do. We need to find a way.
“Results do help. We have played games where we were on the edge of winning, but lost. It makes it a little more difficult.”
