Ruben Amorim demands Manchester United sign Viktor Gyokeres in January
The Red Devils are reportedly open to offloading both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee to help facilitate the move
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly pressing for the signing of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres as he faces a challenging start to his tenure.
Since replacing Erik ten Hag, Amorim has overseen a difficult run, with United suffering four consecutive defeats across all competitions.
The team has also struggled in front of goal, failing to score in three of those matches, intensifying the pressure on the new coach.
According to The Daily Star, Amorim has requested that United secure the signing of his former striker, Viktor Gyokeres, this January.
The Red Devils are reportedly open to offloading both Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee to help facilitate the move.
However, Sporting are expected to demand Gyokeres’ £80million ($99.7million) release clause if any club approaches them in January.
Despite this, Amorim has already stated that United have no ‘possibility’ of making significant signings this winter unless they can raise funds by offloading players.
The club has already invested heavily in the summer of 2024, securing the services of Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Amorim had previously ruled out pursuing any of his former Sporting players in January, making it unlikely that he will be able to bring Gyokeres to Old Trafford this window.
Nonetheless, the club is prepared to allow the departures of Rashford and Zirkzee.
In the meantime, Amorim faces another tough challenge with Manchester United set to face Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
