William Saliba’s camp has responded positively after being approached by Real Madrid, according to reports.
The France international has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI and is widely regarded as one of the standout defenders in the Premier League since his breakthrough in the 2022/23 season.
Despite Arsenal’s impressive consistency, Saliba has yet to secure silverware in north London, having twice narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
Real Madrid have been persistently linked with the 23-year-old, and reports in Spain suggest they have now made him their ‘priority target’.
The Spanish giants are reportedly prepared to break records to land the defender, as per Sport.
Although Arsenal have little intention of selling one of their star players, it is said that Real Madrid has received a ‘positive response’ from Saliba’s camp.
Despite the interest from Los Blancos, Saliba recently stated that he feels at home at the Emirates Stadium.
Saliba told the Mirror in December: “Yeah of course, I feel at home. I signed for the club five years ago but it’s only my third season and I’m enjoying everything – the players, the staff and the fans.
“I feel at home so of course, why not?”
Real Madrid are looking to bolster their defence and have reportedly expressed interest in full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti’s side made an inquiry for Alexander-Arnold, the academy product who is in the final six months of his contract.
However, their approach on Tuesday was swiftly rejected, with Liverpool making it clear that they have no intention of allowing the player to leave in January.
