Ruben Amorim reacts as Nottingham Forest stun Man Utd with first Old Trafford win in 30 years

Forest struck early, with Nikola Milenkovic powering a header beyond the reach of a helpless Onana just 91 seconds into the match, following a corner kick

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana endured a disastrous performance as his side suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.

Forest struck early, with Nikola Milenkovic powering a header beyond the reach of a helpless Onana just 91 seconds into the match, following a corner kick.

However, the visitors’ lead was short-lived as Rasmus Højlund quickly equalised.

After Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was parried into his path by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, Højlund made no mistake in putting the ball into the net.

Forest came out strong in the second half, with Morgan Gibbs-White unleashing a powerful shot that Onana inexplicably failed to stop, allowing the ball to trickle past him into the net.

Moments later, Chris Wood extended Forest’s lead with a looping header over Onana and a number of United defenders.

Bruno Fernandes pulled one back for United just after the hour mark, curling a stunning shot into the top corner.

However, despite their efforts, United couldn’t find an equaliser, and Forest held on for all three points.

After the final whistle, Forest manager Ruben Amorim spoke to BBC Sport, reflecting on the match and attributing his team’s victory to the quality of their performance.

“Tough game. We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it’s hard to try to fight,” Amorim said.

“We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations.

“We improved the movement in the last third.

“We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals.

“Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.

“We didn’t have many situations to score.

“Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.

“This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects.

“We have to win games to help us improve the team.

He added, “We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail.

“We already know it’s a big job so we have to continue.”
