Ruud van Nistelrooy benefited from coaching overhaul after Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Manchester United
Van Nistelrooy served as interim United boss between Erik ten Hag's departure and Amorim's arrival
Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed his gratitude for the opportunities that emerged following Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Manchester United manager.
Van Nistelrooy served as interim United boss between Erik ten Hag’s departure and Amorim’s arrival.
However, the former United striker was informed his services would no longer be required once the Portuguese manager took charge.
Soon after, Ruud van Nistelrooy joined Leicester City, replacing Steve Cooper, and immediately began assembling his backroom staff.
Amorim brought a strong contingent from Sporting Lisbon to Old Trafford, appointing Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro, and Paulo Barreira to key roles.
Their arrival marked the departure of Van Nistelrooy and his Dutch colleagues Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel.
Van Nistelrooy remains a staunch admirer of Ten Rouwelaar, a former goalkeeper who worked with Anderlecht and Burnley before joining Manchester United earlier this year as a goalkeeping coach.
At Leicester, the 43-year-old has been promoted to Van Nistelrooy’s assistant while retaining his goalkeeping responsibilities.
Ten Rouwelaar earned recognition for improving Andre Onana during his stint at Carrington, and Van Nistelrooy is confident he can similarly elevate Leicester’s Mads Hermansen.
Speaking about the impact of his assistant, the Leicester boss said: “He’s having a very good season overall. He makes a lot of saves, we’re trying to reduce that amount. Mads is all around.
“He’s a good shot-stopper, excellent footballer.
“He (Ten Rouwelaar) will make Mads better for sure. He’s worked with young talented goalkeepers and made them improve into the highest level.
“[Bart] Verbruggen is one of course, who he worked with at Anderlecht.
“He worked with Onana at United and I think he was in the best form of his life in the months he worked with Jelle.
“He’s a fantastic addition to the team. He’s not only improving the goalkeepers and playing out, but the players around the keeper to do better.
“Of course you need everyone to be involved in playing out from the back and that whole process he’s great at.”
