In a surprising turn of events, Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected all proposals for a contract renewal with Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet Relevo.
The 25-year-old, who has been a pivotal figure in the team since making his debut in 2016, is said to be considering his future at the club amid speculation surrounding potential offers from other top European teams.
Alexander-Arnold’s current contract, which runs until 2025, has sparked discussions among fans and pundits alike regarding his long-term commitment to Liverpool.
His remarkable performances and ability to influence games have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in the world.
It has been reported that the Liverpool vice-captain is weighing his options, with several clubs reportedly expressing interest in securing his services.
The Reds, however, remain hopeful of persuading Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay.
Alongside Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer, Mohamed Salah, and club captain Virgil van Dijk are also at risk of leaving the club if contract negotiations do not lead to successful agreements.
This season, Liverpool face an uphill battle to ensure that none of these three key players depart Merseyside, but there is still time to reach a resolution.
“I have always said I want to captain the club,” said Alexander-Arnold when asked about his ambitions.
“That is a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands.
“I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say.”
He added: “The most important thing is always trophies.
“I want to win trophies.
“We were close to the title last season and we got a cup.
“The (quadruple) was on for a while I suppose.
“This season we are looking really good, it is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency.
“It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can.”
In November, Real Madrid will visit Anfield for a crucial Champions League clash, and all eyes will be on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham if an agreement is not secured by then.
