Liverpool midfielder to miss West Ham clash

Key Liverpool midfielder will miss Sunday's match at the Olympic Stadium through suspension

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai will miss the trip to the Olympic stadium to face West Ham on Sunday after picking up a second-half yellow card in the win against Leicester City.

The Hungarian started from the bench with Arne Slot deciding to protect him from a fifth yellow card of the season which will suspend him for Liverpool’s last Premier League match of 2024.

Curtis Jones returned to the starting lineup ahead of Szoboszlai, which was one of two changes that Arne Slot made to his side. Darwin Nunez also started in place of Luis Diaz who was on the bench due to the news of his father being hospitalised.

Jordan Ayew gave Leicester City an early lead in the 6th minute, stunning the home crowd with a low effort that clipped off Virgil Van Dijk’s heel and went beyond the reach of a full-stretched Alisson in goal.

Cody Gakpo – Liverpool’s most dangerous attacker pulled his side level just before half-time before Curtis Jones made it 2-1 minutes after the restart. Jones became the Red’s first player to score on his century of league appearances for Liverpool since Alexander Oxlade-Chamberlain in January 2023.

Mohamed Salah ensured the game was beyond the Foxes with a trademark goal beyond Jakub Stolarczyk in the away goal.

The victory extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 7 points after 17 matches with a game in hand.

Szoboszlai’s 80th-minute booking after clipping Jordan Ayew within 2 minutes after coming on means he will sit out the clash in East London.
