Alexander Isak wants to join Liverpool this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The striker has reportedly informed Newcastle United that he is considering leaving the club, with Liverpool ready to make a sensational move.
Romano posted on X: “Alexander Isak wants Liverpool, it’s his priority as reported. No talks with Al Hilal, Chelsea or Manchester United.”
Early on Thursday, it emerged that Isak was left out of Newcastle’s squad for their tour of Singapore and South Korea as he continues to recover from a minor thigh injury.
The Magpies are aware of Isak’s desire to explore a move away from the North East, with Liverpool now prepared to make a British record offer.
Newcastle have remained firm that Isak is not for sale, valuing the 25-year-old – who scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season – at over £120 million.
However, with no sign of a lucrative new contract, initially indicated last year, the door appears open for Liverpool to step in, having already spent more than £250million this summer.
Isak still has three years remaining on his current contract, and Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to sell due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Earlier in the summer, Arsenal also considered a move for Isak but were put off by Newcastle’s unwillingness to sell and the hefty price tag.
Instead, Arsenal turned their attention to signing Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres.
The Saudi Pro League has also shown interest in Isak, but Liverpool seem to be the front-runners should Newcastle’s resolve weaken amid these developments.
Providing an update on Isak’s future, manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Newcastle: “I’d never give a guarantee about anybody [staying] because I’ve been in football long enough to know I could end up looking silly.
“But, the desire from everybody to keep him is as strong as it could be. Fingers crossed that will happen for us.
“We love him as a player and a person and want him to stay – and that is right through the club. He’s an outstanding talent and a player we cherish.
“I think for any player speculation’s not an easy thing to deal with, and not an easy thing to understand, when you’re fielding calls and messages from players and people asking you all sorts.”
