Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has left the Reds’ pre-season training camp in Tokyo to attend to a personal matter.
The Brazilian has been granted permission to return home to the UK and will rejoin his teammates upon their return from Asia.
Defender Joe Gomez also left the squad shortly before Liverpool’s opening game in Hong Kong against AC Milan due to an Achilles injury.
However, head coach Arne Slot has downplayed the severity of the issue and expects Gomez to be available for selection ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Colombian winger Luis Diaz said his goodbyes to the squad on Monday before flying to Germany to complete his transfer to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have agreed a fee in the region of £65.5million for the 28-year-old, who is eager to embrace a new challenge after failing to agree on a new contract at Anfield.
The Reds hope to use the funds to pursue a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Alisson featured in the first 45 minutes of Saturday’s 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong, marking his first action of the summer.
However, he will now miss Wednesday’s friendly against J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos.
With Alisson’s departure, Giorgi Mamardashvili becomes the No. 1 goalkeeper on the tour.
He will be supported by fellow summer signings Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi, as well as young Polish goalkeeper Kornel Misciur.
Liverpool will return to the UK following Wednesday’s match at Nissan Stadium.
The Premier League champions will then host Athletic Bilbao in two consecutive friendlies at Anfield on Monday.
The Reds will face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10, before starting their Premier League title defence at home against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.
