Alexis Mac Allister returns to Liverpool training ahead of Yokohama F. Marinos clash

Liverpool have safely arrived in Japan for the next stage of their pre-season tour

Alexis Mac Allister has given Liverpool a timely boost by returning to full training on Monday, while Luis Diaz has said his goodbyes and boarded a flight to Munich.

Liverpool have safely arrived in Japan for the next stage of their pre-season tour, which will see them face Yokohama FM on Wednesday.

The squad trained for the first time in Tokyo on Monday, though Diaz was absent as he bids farewell to his teammates before formalising his £65.6million move to Bayern Munich.

The Argentine midfielder had been following an individual fitness program throughout pre-season due to a long-term injury.

He missed the final two games of the 2024/25 season and Argentina’s subsequent summer internationals but is now back in training, bolstering Liverpool’s midfield options.

This boost comes at a crucial time, as manager Arne Slot has relied on Ryan Gravenberch and Kostas Tsimikas to fill in at centre-back following Joe Gomez’s injury.

Gomez returned to Merseyside last week with a minor Achilles issue, leaving Liverpool short in defence. However, reports suggest the club are still “actively” seeking reinforcements.

Wataru Endo also participated in Monday’s session after missing the friendly against AC Milan due to illness.

Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike is expected to feature in Wednesday’s friendly after missing the Hong Kong match, having only just completed his signing.

Liverpool are now without two players from the original Asia tour squad, with Gomez back at the AXA Training Centre and Diaz starting a new chapter in Munich.
