Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool appears to be heading toward an early end, with manager Arne Slot reportedly “not impressed” by the winger’s “application and mentality.”
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus during the summer transfer window for a cut-price fee of £11million ($14.4m) plus add-ons.
He was expected to provide cover for Mohamed Salah and ease the attacking burden on the Egyptian star.
However, Chiesa’s first six months at Anfield have been a major disappointment.
The Italian international has struggled with fitness issues and has managed just four appearances across all competitions, with a mere 18 minutes of Premier League action to his name.
Federico Chiesa was notably absent from Liverpool’s matchday squad against West Ham last Sunday, fuelling speculation about his future.
According to Anfield Watch journalist Peter Staunton, Slot’s dissatisfaction stems from Chiesa’s lack of effort in training, while reports also suggest the 27-year-old is homesick and struggling to adapt to both the English weather and the physical demands of the Premier League.
Despite being under contract until 2027, it is increasingly unlikely that Chiesa will remain at Anfield for the duration of his deal.
A January return to Italy appears to be on the cards, with Napoli, Fiorentina, and Inter Milan reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
Liverpool, currently sitting atop the Premier League table, are preparing for a high-stakes clash against Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield, their first match of 2025.
It remains to be seen whether Slot will include Chiesa in the squad, amid growing uncertainty over the winger’s future.
