Diogo Dalot gives honest verdict on appointment of Man United boss Ruben Amorim

The Portuguese coach has signed a contract that will run until June 2027.

Diogo Dalot has expressed his enthusiasm for Manchester United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, following his official appointment as the successor to Erik ten Hag.

Dalot is the first of what is expected to be several United players to welcome Amorim to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese full-back seems eager to work with his fellow countryman, especially after experiencing a tumultuous season with Ten Hag, where he frequently found himself in and out of the starting lineup.

Despite facing heavy criticism for missing an open goal in the Red Devils’ Premier League loss to West Ham last weekend, Dalot appears to have quickly moved past the incident.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Dalot said of Amorim: “He’s obviously a fantastic coach, young mentality but he knows what he wants.

“Very demanding, that’s what I can expect and I think that’s a perfect match for a club like this.

“The standards are really high. I hope it can be a really good match and I wish for us to win together.

“The Premier League really suits people from Portugal. It’s been all over the years that Portuguese managers and players coming to England and being successful, so I really hope it’s one more case and I am really excited to start working with him.

“We are going to be a team. We have to work with each other and we will help him in some ways and I am sure he will help us.”

Dalot is likely to benefit from the system that Amorim employs, which typically features a three-at-the-back formation with wing-backs.

This setup allows Dalot the flexibility to play as one of the three centre-backs or on the flank.

Under Ten Hag, he demonstrated his versatility by playing as both a left and right-back, as well as in a central role when necessary, making him a suitable fit for the new head coach’s tactics.

However, most United players may not meet their new coach until after the upcoming international break.

Although Amorim officially joins on November 11, players like Dalot will be departing to represent their countries, and they will need to quickly acclimatise upon their return to face Ipswich on November 24.
