It is ‘entirely possible’ – Former Liverpool sporting director weighs on Mohamed Salah contract situation

The Egyptian star is set to be out of contract at Anfield next summer

Former Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has disclosed that he wouldn’t be surprised if Mohamed Salah made a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The Egyptian star is set to be out of contract at Anfield next summer, leading to ongoing speculation about his future.

In September, Salah hinted that this season could be his last with the Reds after delivering a standout performance in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

However, reports claim that Salah is eager to extend his stay with the club beyond this summer.

Salah isn’t the only key player facing an uncertain future at Liverpool.

Both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have contracts expiring next summer, allowing all three players to negotiate pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs.

While Van Dijk has confirmed that contract negotiations have started, Alexander-Arnold is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Salah has been tipped to consider a move to the Middle East after Al-Ittihad’s rejected verbal £150million offer in the summer of 2023.

Schmadtke joined Liverpool as interim sporting director shortly before the failed transfer bid for Mohamed Salah.

While he has generally remained tight-lipped about his time at Anfield and any interest in Salah, he recently shared his thoughts on the forward’s future.

He acknowledged that he would consider a move to Saudi Arabia if he received a compelling offer, despite having come out of semi-retirement to join Liverpool last season.

“I don’t know, but it is entirely possible that this will happen,” he told Al-Eqtisadiah when asked about Salah’s future.

“The Saudi League is developing every year, due to more money being invested in the competition.

“The Saudi League deals have affected the work of some European clubs, but the matter does not rise to the level of harm, and I welcome working in it if I receive a good offer.”
