Gary O’Neil sacked by Wolves after defeat to Ipswich Town

O’Neil's dismissal comes in the wake of a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich on Saturday

Wolves have parted ways with Gary O’Neil, making him the third Premier League manager to lose his job this season, according to Telegraph Sport.

O’Neil’s dismissal comes in the wake of a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich on Saturday, which left Wolves 19th in the table, four points adrift of safety.

Despite reluctance to make a change, the club’s owners, Fosun, felt it was necessary to act to address the ongoing struggles.

The pressure on O’Neil had been mounting since before the last international break. While he temporarily eased concerns with a vital home victory over Southampton and an impressive away win at Fulham, the resurgence proved short-lived.

Four consecutive defeats to Bournemouth, Everton, West Ham, and Ipswich sealed his fate.

O’Neil was widely praised last season for guiding Wolves to a respectable 14th-place finish after stepping in for Julen Lopetegui, who departed just before the campaign began.

His achievements earned him a contract extension in August, but this season has proven far more challenging.

After 18 months at the helm, O’Neil’s tenure has come to an end as Wolves look for a fresh start to salvage their season.
