Hugo Ekitike targeting return from injury in November

Ekitike suffered an Achilles injury in April and subsequently underwent surgery

Liverpool have been handed a major boost over Hugo Ekitike’s return from injury, with a potential timeframe emerging for the striker.

Ekitike suffered an Achilles injury in April and subsequently underwent surgery.

He has been recovering ever since, with no definitive timeframe given for his return to team training or the matchday squad.

The Reds included Ekitike in their Champions League squad, which was confirmed last month, with Liverpool set to play league-phase fixtures until the end of January.

According to L’Equipe, Hugo Ekitike is targeting a return in November, although December has also been identified as a possible timeframe for the 24-year-old to feature again.

The report claims Ekitike recently travelled to the United States to visit a specialist regarding his recovery. This came weeks after he took part in an individual training programme at France’s training base in Clairefontaine.

Ekitike is now reportedly able to jog and remains hopeful of returning to fitness before the end of the calendar year.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola was asked last month about the decision to include Ekitike in the Champions League squad despite the forward’s long-term injury.
