Ruben Amorim set for bumper Manchester United payday

The Red Devils activated the Sporting coach's £8.3m release clause earlier this week

Ruben Amorim is poised for a significant payday as he takes the helm at Manchester United, although his salary will not match that of Erik ten Hag.

Earlier this week, Man United activated the £8.3million release clause for the Sporting Lisbon coach.

Amorim is expected to take the reins at Old Trafford during the upcoming international break.

The 39-year-old is reportedly set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Red Devils following the dismissal of Ten Hag on Monday.

According to the Daily Mail, Amorim’s contract will earn him £6.5million per year, slightly less than Ten Hag’s £6.75million salary for this season.

Ten Hag, who spent just over two years in charge, will receive £15million in compensation after his departure.

The Dutchman’s pay was affected by Man United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, resulting in a 25% pay cut. His salary dropped from £9 million to £6.75 million this season.

Amorim’s rumoured wage is still higher than that of Liverpool’s Arne Slot, who has guided the Reds to second place in the early Premier League table.

Slot is currently the fifth-highest earner in the league, with a salary of £6.2million at Anfield.

Leading the league in managerial earnings is Pep Guardiola, who commands an impressive £20million per year at Manchester City.

Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta follows in second place, reportedly earning £10million plus bonuses.

Amorim addressed the press on Thursday, amid growing speculation that he would soon be officially unveiled by United.

The Portuguese indicated that the “soap opera” surrounding his future is nearing its conclusion.

He said: “It’s difficult to focus on the games, but I’m managing to do so more.

“The soap opera is coming to an end, let’s say.

“The fact that I can’t be so clear creates a lot of difficulty for me.

“I know it’s difficult for everyone, but at the end of the game [vs Estrela Amadora tomorrow] we’ll address it.

“I don’t think the president forced me to leave immediately.

“He’s defending the club’s rights and I’m not getting involved in that, I would never do that.

“I think that at the end of the game everyone will be very clear.

“The fans may like it or not, but everything will be settled.”
