Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is set to miss the start of England’s Nations League campaign due to injury.
Bellingham is facing time on the sidelines after sustaining a leg injury.
According to reports from Spain, the 21-year-old is expected to be unavailable until after the upcoming international break, putting his participation in the start of England’s Nations League campaign in doubt.
A statement from the Spanish club on Friday read: “Following tests carried out today on Jude Bellingham by Real Madrid’s medical team, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the plantaris muscle in his right leg.
“His progress will be monitored.”
“[Bellingham] got a knock,” coach, Carlo Ancelotti, said in a news conference, earlier on Friday.
“We’re evaluating it.”
Jude Bellingham had an outstanding debut season at Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals in 42 appearances.
His contributions helped the club secure both La Liga and Champions League titles.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder featured in Madrid’s 1-1 La Liga draw against Mallorca last weekend and played a pivotal role in their Super Cup victory over Atalanta earlier this month.
Real Madrid will host Real Valladolid on Sunday and have additional La Liga matches against Las Palmas and Real Betis before the international break.
Carsley was named interim England manager earlier this month following Gareth Southgate’s resignation after Euro 2024.
Carsley is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures on August 29.
England will kick off their Nations League campaign under interim manager Lee Carsley with an away fixture against the Republic of Ireland on September 7, followed by a home game against Finland at Wembley three days later.
