Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that negotiations over a new contract with Manchester City have stalled as he approaches the final six months of his current deal.
The 33-year-old midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Although discussions about an extension began earlier this season, they were put on hold after De Bruyne suffered a thigh injury in September.
Now fit again, De Bruyne has cast doubt on whether this will be his final season at City.
The Belgian playmaker will turn 34 at the end of the campaign, and after an injury-ravaged 2023-24 season, questions have emerged over whether it would be wise for the club to extend his contract.
De Bruyne has also been linked with moves to Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League, though his future remains uncertain.
Should he leave, he will undoubtedly be remembered as a City legend and one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
Having made a few cameo appearances since recovering from his injury, Kevin De Bruyne could feature for Man City in their upcoming Champions League clash with Feyenoord on Tuesday.
It remains unclear when, or if, contract talks with Man City will resume.
He told reporters: “Obviously when I started the season I knew talks would happen but then I had that thing [thigh injury] against Brentford and put that to a side.
“I was hoping to be out for days but it ended up being eight or nine weeks and I would rather get back first and all the rest will come. I am not too obsessed with things but there is not much I can say.
“I am fine, I am happy, I just want to play football again and we will see.
“Talks will come, if no talks come it will be my last year. I just want to play good football.”
