Liverpool assess next move after Brighton reject second Yankuba Minteh bid

Finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah has been a priority for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool are assessing their next move after having two bids for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh rejected, according to The Telegraph.

Finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah has been a priority for Liverpool this summer.

The Reds had a £50million bid rejected on Thursday before returning with an improved £60million offer on Friday, which Brighton also turned down.

Brighton value the 22-year-old at around £70million. Yankuba Minteh, who joined the Seagulls from Newcastle for £30million in 2024, is currently injured and expected to return in October after undergoing surgery on his right leg.

Liverpool have also struggled to make progress in their pursuit of PSG winger Bradley Barcola, who is valued at around £145million, while initial interest in Ibrahim Mbaye has not been followed up.

With Curtis Jones having completed a £30million move to Inter Milan, Liverpool could still return with a third bid for Minteh as Iraola looks to strengthen his squad.

Iraola said: “As a manager, this is an easy one for me. I wanted the players from the first day on the 13th July, everyone here with all the positions covered by top-level players.

“But you understand how the competition works, that the market is open when you start the competition.

“We have to adapt as coaches to this situation in the 10 days or two weeks that we have because there is a lot of uncertainty, not just Liverpool but everywhere, while the market is open.

“We have to adapt. Honestly, I don’t spend too much time thinking about these things.

“I know you will ask me a lot of questions about the market, but I am focused on the game against Newcastle.

“That is massive for me, using the very good players that we have right now in the building in the best way so we can be competitive from the beginning.”
