Liverpool confident over Ibrahima Konate contract extension

Konate has just two years left on his remainin contract

Liverpool are reportedly nearing an agreement with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract, with the club confident of finalising a deal for the French defender.

Last month, it was revealed that Liverpool had initiated talks with Konate regarding an extension, as head coach Arne Slot sees the 25-year-old as an integral part of the team’s future.

Since joining the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36million, Konate has been a key player for the Premier League side.

His importance has only grown under Slot, where he has formed a solid defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Dutch manager’s backline.

Ibrahima Konate has already made 18 appearances for Liverpool this season, playing a vital role in their strong start to the 2024/25 campaign.

However, he is currently sidelined with a knee injury, which could pose a challenge for Slot as the team aims to maintain momentum heading into the busy festive period.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks over a new contract are progressing as expected, with Liverpool optimistic about concluding the deal soon.

The club reportedly holds Konaté in high regard, viewing him as a cornerstone of their long-term project.

At just 25, the French international is poised to play a significant role in Liverpool’s plans for the future.

Under Slot’s leadership, Liverpool appear to have secured their central defensive pairing for the years to come.

With a focus on building something special, the Reds are doubling down on their commitment to Konate as they aim to sustain success in the Premier League and beyond.
