Liverpool have tabled an official offer to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, submitting a £35million bid with no add-ons included, according to The Athletic.
Palace are yet to respond to the proposal.
The south London club are actively working to secure defensive reinforcements in the event Guehi departs.
The 25-year-old England international is open to making the move to Anfield if the clubs reach an agreement, and talks between the two sides have been described as cordial due to their strong working relationship.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has made it clear he would prefer to keep Guehi, especially with the transfer window approaching its September 1 deadline.
However, the club are wary of losing him for free next summer, as Guehi has entered the final year of his contract and has no intention of signing an extension.
Negotiations between the two clubs had been ongoing, though no agreement had been reached at that stage.
Guehi, who was a key figure for England during their run to the Euro 2024 final, has sought assurances over playing time with next summer’s World Cup in mind.
Ahead of Palace’s Premier League opener – a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 17 – Glasner admitted he could not guarantee Guehi would remain at Selhurst Park beyond the transfer deadline, hinting that the final decision over his future rested with the player.
Last summer, Newcastle United had four bids for Guehi rejected, the highest of which was worth up to £65 million with add-ons.
Since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has made 155 appearances and captained the club to a historic FA Cup triumph over Manchester City at Wembley in May, the club’s first major trophy.
He has also earned 23 England caps.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi comes after Jarell Quansah’s £35million move to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.
The Reds’ senior centre-back options currently include Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, with the latter also in the final year of his contract.
The Merseyside club have been active in the market, having had a bid rejected for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak earlier this month.
They have already added Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez to Arne Slot’s squad.
