Luis Diaz completes permanent move to Bayern Munich

Diaz now embarks on a new chapter with the completion of his permanent transfer to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga

Luis Diaz has completed a permanent transfer to Bayern Munich following three-and-a-half years with Liverpool.

The Colombian leaves the Reds having played a key role in winning four major trophies since joining from FC Porto in early 2022, highlighted by last season’s Premier League title triumph.

Diaz made an immediate impact upon signing under Jurgen Klopp, showcasing his pace, skill, and versatility in various attacking roles right from his first appearances in a Liverpool shirt.

His opening half-season was eventful, with ‘Lucho’ scoring six goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances before the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

He was integral to Liverpool’s pursuit of a remarkable quadruple, starting both Wembley finals as the Reds won the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup, each decided by penalty shootouts against Chelsea.

Diaz also featured in Klopp’s side as they finished runners-up in the Premier League and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris.

A serious knee injury early in the following season curtailed Diaz’s momentum, limiting him to just 21 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.

That summer, he switched to the No. 7 shirt and gradually regained his top form. Over the next two seasons, Diaz made 101 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 30 goals and assisting 10.

Another League Cup victory at Wembley marked the 2023-24 season, which also saw Klopp leave the club, with Arne Slot appointed as the new head coach.

While Diaz had mostly played as a wide attacker, Slot increasingly deployed him as the central striker of a front three in the last campaign.

This change proved fruitful, with Diaz enjoying his most prolific season at Liverpool and helping lead the team to a Premier League title secured with four games remaining.

Of his 17 goals in 2024-25, 13 came in the league, including a memorable double at Old Trafford as Liverpool made a statement early in the campaign.

Another standout moment was his second-half hat-trick in a 4-0 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield.

The climax of his Liverpool career came in April and May, as Diaz celebrated alongside supporters the moment the championship was mathematically clinched.
