Mohamed Salah has arrived in Turkey to complete his move to Trabzonspor after the club confirmed they had opened contract negotiations with the free-agent forward.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Trabzonspor announced that talks with Salah were underway and that the Egyptian was due to arrive in Trabzon on Wednesday.

“The time and other details regarding the welcome programme in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day,” the club said.

Trabzonspor chairman Ertugrul Dogan also confirmed that, while the transfer had not yet been finalised, Salah was expected to undergo a medical before signing his contract, with the deal likely to be completed on Thursday.

Salah, 34, left Liverpool this summer after a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield. He departs as the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, scoring 257 goals in 442 appearances, while winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Trabzonspor, who finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, have teased Salah’s arrival by posting a video of the Egyptian pyramids on social media. Their squad already includes Andre Onana, Stefan Savic, Paul Onuachu and Ruslan Malinovskyi.

Mohamed Salah enjoyed a memorable 2024-25 campaign, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and 18 assists as Liverpool won the title under Arne Slot.

However, the following season proved more difficult, with the Egyptian scoring seven league goals in 27 appearances amid Liverpool’s struggles and a reported breakdown in his relationship with Slot.

On the international stage, Salah helped Egypt reach the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup before a controversial 3-2 defeat to Argentina. The Egyptian Football Association later criticised the officiating, claiming key decisions went against the team.

Although Salah signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in April 2025, the agreement was terminated a year early to facilitate his departure.
