Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool squad but Ibrahima Konate misses training

The 33-year-old helped Egypt finish fourth in the tournament and is now pushing for a return after missing the Reds’ last seven matches

Mohamed Salah took part in open training on Tuesday ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Marseille following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 33-year-old helped Egypt finish fourth in the tournament and is now pushing for a return after missing the Reds’ last seven matches.

Salah trained with his team-mates at the AXA Training Centre before the squad travelled to France, though his place in the starting XI remains uncertain.

Ibrahima Konaté was absent due to family reasons and may miss the trip, leaving Joe Gomez on standby to partner Virgil van Dijk, with Giovanni Leoni sidelined for the season.

Liverpool have been unbeaten in the 12 matches since Salah was first dropped but have drawn six, including their last four league games.

With goals hard to come by, Arne Slot must now decide whether to recall the club’s third-highest scorer.

Long-term absentees Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley and Leoni remain out, while Calvin Ramsay trained but is ineligible for Europe.
