Tindall tells Liverpool to ‘shut up’ in 3-3 draw
Jason Tindall was unimpreesed with Liverpool's appeal for a late penalty as he tells Slot and co to shut up
Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall ‘s recent history of feuds with Liverpool continued when he was once again seen asking Arne Slot and his staff to ‘shut up’ after the Liverpool head coach and his bench appealed for a late penalty for a handball. The match eventually ended in a pulsating 3-3 draw.
Liverpool twice came from behind, through goals from Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah, before the Egyptian put the Reds ahead 5 minutes from full time. However, a rare schoolboy mistake from Caoimhin Kelleher allowed Fabian Schar to slide home an injury-time equalizer.
Liverpool saw penalty appeals waved away in the final minute at St. James’ Park as Alexis Mac Allister’s shot struck Dan Burn on the arm in the box. Admittedly, while the defender did have one arm raised high, the ball had connected with his arm which was tucked in in a natural position.
But having happened so quickly and with the game so nearly at an end, the Reds understandably were most animated in their protests. And the same was true of Arne Slot and his backroom staff on the sidelines.
With Arne Slot and his team spotted remonstrating with the fourth official after the incident, Newcastle United’s assistant manager, Jason Tindall, was left unimpressed. Initially watching on, he soon interjected as he repeatedly told the Reds bench to ‘shut up, shut up’.
In the same fixture last season, the Reds looked like they were heading for a miserable defeat after Virgil van Dijk was sent off for a last-man challenge on Alexander Isak after Anthony Gordon had put the hosts 1-0 ahead. Before Van Dijk’s dismissal, Newcastle felt Trent Alexander-Arnold was lucky to escape red.

Following those two incidents, there were several exchanges between the two benches. Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall in particular aimed at the then Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as he ‘shushed’ the German by putting his finger to his lips.
However, Liverpool and Klopp had the last laugh as Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score twice to give the Reds all three points. Klopp was seen dashing down the touchline toward the Newcastle bench and Tindall in particular to celebrate the winner and ended up injuring his hamstring whilst he received a yellow card in addition.
Klopp in a subsequent interview joked that Jason Tindall would struggle with the Premier League’s new rules of assistants not being able to stand at the front of the technical area. He said: “It’s like that in the Champions League anyway. I think it’s only a problem for one team: Newcastle. Sorry!”
