Liverpool have agreed to sign promising 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City, according to The Athletic.
Premier League rivals Arsenal had reached a deal to sign Wright for around £200,000 plus add-ons.
However, personal terms were not agreed with the north London club.
Liverpool have now successfully secured Wright’s signature after also satisfying Salford City’s demands.
The striker preferred to remain in the North West, making Liverpool a more attractive destination.
Wright’s football education has mostly taken place outside the traditional academy system.
It is believed that moving to an elite environment like Liverpool’s will be the ideal next step for his development.
A prolific goalscorer at youth level and for Salford’s B team, Wright made his senior debut in January against Manchester City. He went on to make two League Two appearances before the end of the season.
Following the completion of the transfer, Wright is expected to join Liverpool’s under-21 squad, which is managed by Rob Page.
