Federico Chiesa will miss Wednesday’s Champions League match against Bologna.
The Liverpool forward did not participate in training with Arne Slot’s squad on Tuesday afternoon.
During his pre-match press conference, the head coach confirmed that Federico Chiesa will not be available for the second game of the league phase.
“Federico trained with us yesterday and came in today with some problems, and I’m not expecting him to be in the team tomorrow,” said Slot.
“Which is a pity for us but of course for him even more.
“He was looking forward to a Champions League night at Anfield and especially because we’re facing an Italian team.
“It’s a pity for him but he will be there [in the future], many more nights to come for him.”
Asked about a potential timeframe for Chiesa’s absence, Slot added: “That’s always difficult because it happened yesterday but I’m not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time.
“But this game is not possible for him and we have to wait and see if he can manage to be in the team on Saturday.
“And afterwards it’s the international break.”
Diogo Jota also missed training after last Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory against his former club, Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, Slot is optimistic that the Portuguese forward will be available for the upcoming home match against Bologna.
“Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves. He took a knock,” said the Dutchman.
“I’m expecting him to be with us tomorrow, that he’s available to play.”
Elsewhere, Darwin Nunez and Andy Robertson have provided Liverpool with a significant injury boost after both participated in open training on Tuesday.
The duo had been considered potential doubts for the Reds’ Champions League match against Bologna.
Nunez missed Liverpool’s recent 2-1 victory over Wolves due to illness, while Robertson limped off late in the match with a knock.
