Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed to join Atlético Madrid.
Last week, Chelsea accepted a £33 million offer from the Spanish club.
However, there were concerns about Gallagher’s willingness to make the move.
On Sunday night, the 24-year-old confirmed to Atlético officials that he is happy to proceed with the transfer.
The England international is now expected to travel to finalize his medical examination and sign his contract, marking the end of his 18-year association with Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had proposed a two-year deal with an option for a third year, but Gallagher found the offer unsatisfactory due to the contract length and the role he would have played in the squad.
A natural divide had developed between Gallagher and Chelsea, as he was seen as a poor fit for new manager Enzo Maresca’s possession-based system and was unlikely to be a regular starter under the Italian coach.
Gallagher, who featured in five matches at Euro 2024, has less than a year remaining on his current Chelsea contract.
Chelsea preferred to sell Gallagher to a foreign club rather than a domestic rival, leading them to accept Atlético’s reduced offer.
Chelsea are evaluating potential replacements in the event that Gallagher leaves the club.
According to Sky Sports News, one of the players they are considering is Matt O’Riley of Celtic.
O’Riley has attracted interest from several clubs this summer, including Atalanta, who have already made bids for him. He also has suitors from both the Premier League and international teams.
Earlier this year, Atletico Madrid submitted a bid for O’Riley in January.
