Kylian Mbappe made a memorable debut for Real Madrid, scoring as the Spanish giants defeated Atalanta 2-0 to claim a record sixth UEFA Super Cup title in Warsaw.
The 25-year-old French forward had a quiet first half as Real Madrid struggled to find their rhythm against Gian Piero Gasperini’s well-drilled Atalanta side.
Marten de Roon came close for Atalanta, with his shot ricocheting off Éder Militão and striking the Real Madrid crossbar.
Real Madrid’s best chance of the opening half came when Rodrygo’s effort hit the Atalanta bar just before halftime.
With Mbappe playing in a central role and Jude Bellingham positioned deeper in midfield, the Spanish side found it difficult to break down their Italian opponents.
However, the match took a turn after the break. Federico Valverde tapped in Vinícius Júnior’s pass to open the scoring, giving Real Madrid the lead.
As Atalanta began to fade, Mbappé doubled Real Madrid’s advantage.
He latched onto a precise pass from Bellingham, accelerated past the defense, and dispatched a powerful shot into the top corner.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side gained control of the match in the second half and looked comfortable as the final whistle approached.
Mbappe was substituted late in the game, having already made a decisive impact on his debut.
Real Madrid’s victory adds to their illustrious history, securing their sixth UEFA Super Cup title and reinforcing their status as one of Europe’s most successful clubs.
