Leicester City part ways with manager Steve Cooper after 12 league games
The Foxes suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday
Leicester City have parted ways with manager Steve Cooper, with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League after 12 games.
The Foxes suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, led by former boss Enzo Maresca, on Saturday, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone.
Cooper replaced Maresca in the summer after the Italian guided Leicester to the 2023/24 Championship title and secured their return to the Premier League.
“Men’s first team training will be overseen by first team coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the club begins the process of appointing a new manager, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible,” said a Leicester statement.
Steve Cooper joined Leicester after managing Nottingham Forest, where he was dismissed in December 2023.
The 44-year-old led Forest to Premier League promotion in 2022 and kept them up the following season. However, he was sacked midway through the 2023/24 campaign with Forest in 17th place.
Previously, Cooper guided England’s Under-17s to World Cup glory in 2017 and spent two years at Swansea, reaching the Championship play-off final in 2021, where they lost to Brentford.
