Manchester City lodge complaint with BBC

The Premier League champions are unhappy with the coverage provided by their local radio station, BBC Radio Manchester

Manchester City have lodged a formal complaint with the BBC, according to reports.

The Premier League champions are unhappy with the coverage provided by their local radio station, BBC Radio Manchester.

City officials were reportedly surprised when the station did not send a dedicated reporter to Pep Guardiola’s press conference ahead of their derby against Manchester United.

BBC Radio Manchester holds the rights to broadcast City matches and usually assigns a journalist who primarily covers the club.

According to the Daily Mail, the reporter previously assigned to City has recently been redirected elsewhere, leaving the club puzzled by the lack of dedicated coverage.

This decision has reportedly led to City contacting Radio Manchester to express their dissatisfaction.

The absence of a designated reporter is said to have been the “final straw” for the club, which believes no other Premier League team has faced similar treatment.

For Sunday’s derby, Radio Manchester provided a commentator for each of the two Manchester clubs.

The station maintains that City is still receiving the same level of coverage as before.

It’s worth noting that Radio Manchester holds broadcasting rights for both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Currently, Man City are enduring their most challenging run of form since Guardiola took charge in 2016, having lost eight of their last 12 matches.

“[The owners] know when the situation is bad and we start to lose games, then it is not sustainable,” said Guardiola follwing the weekend.

“Then I would not be here next month or in the next two months.

“The results dictate that – and this is the reality.

“We cannot eternally lose games. Maybe because what we have done in the past [people will think I wouldn’t be sacked] but we are judged daily as managers.

“In one bad season, you can be out. The club knows that I will not do it [resign].

“The club would have to do it. I want to be close to the players.

“I want to be beside them. We’ve lost a lot of games – more than we have in two seasons.”
