Alexander Isak to undergo Liverpool medical after £125m fee agreed
Isak is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Premier League champions

Liverpool have reached a British-record agreement with Newcastle United for Alexander Isak, with the striker now set to undergo a medical ahead of a £125m move to Anfield on transfer deadline day.
The 25-year-old will become the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, surpassing the £116m deal that brought Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in June.
Isak is expected to sign a six-year contract with the Premier League champions.
Talks between Liverpool and Newcastle were re-opened over the weekend, with an agreement reached late on Sunday evening.
This paves the way for Isak to complete the formalities of what he has described as a “dream move” ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.
The Sweden international is likely to take the No.9 shirt vacated by Darwin Nunez following his summer departure to Al Hilal.
Isak is also in line to make his first competitive appearance since May when Sweden face Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier on Friday, September 5.
This blockbuster deal concludes a summer-long saga, during which Isak made it clear both privately and publicly that he wished to leave St. James’ Park for Anfield.
His stance even saw him refuse to train with Newcastle’s first team in an effort to force through the move.
Newcastle initially insisted they would not consider a sale for less than £150m and only after signing two new strikers.
However, with just one addition – German U21 forward Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for around £65m – the Magpies have agreed to part with their star forward for £25m below their original valuation.
Liverpool had a £110m offer rejected in early August, and negotiations were paused while Newcastle explored attacking reinforcements.
Their hardline stance began to soften following the arrival of Woltemade, which was confirmed on Friday.
The Magpies had previously pursued Benjamin Sesko, who joined Manchester United for £73m, as well as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolves striker Jørgen Strand Larsen.
Isak, meanwhile, had been sidelined from Newcastle’s pre-season preparations, citing a minor injury, and instead trained at former club Real Sociedad’s facilities.
He also skipped the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East, further fuelling speculation over his future.
Liverpool’s decision to push hard for Isak comes after selling both Nunez and Luis Diaz in July.
Díaz joined Bayern Munich in a £65.5m deal, while Nunez completed a £45m switch to the Saudi Pro League.
With Isak’s sale expected to raise significant funds, Newcastle are expected to return to the market before the transfer window closes.
